I quite agree, as far as I remember, being licked was a great part of the pleasure. The end of the penis is, as you say a bundle of nerves ends. That's why it hurts so much when you zip it in your flies.
Another favourite way of mine is to lay on my back, and rub the tip of my boner across the bedsheet. It only has to be the tip, and the very lightest of touches, but it can send your senses into overdrive.
